The Rightness of Being Wrong

I don't quite know when it happened but one day, I discovered how easy it is to just admit to having got it wrong. I've met a lot of people who could never, in a million years, say that they were wrong but, it's a seriously cool thing to be able to do. Of course, hanging on to your convictions is all down to that pesky little so and so, the ego... and we all have one of those. That's fine as long as we don't allow that energy to rule our minds. If we do, we enter a never-ending battle of arguing one's case with someone else doing just the same. Being able to say 'I got that wrong' is liberating because you can then let it all go. Not that I'm advocating saying you're wrong if you don't believe it but sometimes, it's better to be kind than to be right. For example, 'Oh, I hadn't looked at it that way. I'll give that some thought" tends to wrap things up.
Having said all that, there are some things on which I won't compromise. I stick up for animals, 'the underdog' and the environment and, if I can't make a difference in someone's thinking, I walk away. I'm not competitive; don't see the point in sport; don't care who wins stuff; hate all this 'the first to', the best of', 'the tallest, strongest, most beautiful etc... all ego based nonsense... so, I don't have to win. But, I don't have to listen to things with which I strongly disagree either. Being able to say you're wrong, somehow also gives you an ability to let go ot other things too. Letting go is an important skill to have.

Animals are never wrong... especially this one.
This little 'rant' all came about because I had to admit I'd got it wrong with regard to my recent novel. My wonderful editor spotted the very points about which I'd been uncomfortable. I knew then it was time to settle down and do some serious editing. A lot of work and rethinking but I believe it will have been well worth it. I hope so anyway, as this is the last of the Retold Trilogy and I wanted to go out with a bang. Cover chosen and purchased and just the final polish to do and Belle will be for sale. Thanks for you patience.
