What must it be like to wake up from a coma and remember absolutely nothing. Not even your name!

We set so much strore by our 'identities' but what does that mean? Are we our families, our ancestors, our job, our marital status, our belonings, our homes, our appearance? When all those things are taken from us, what is left? Perhaps our identities lie within our hearts. The question arises, what are we like as a person? Would we be inherently kind, compassionate and caring or maybe a monster, capable of terrible cruelty? These considerations and more haunt the mind of the latest heroine in the 'Retold' Trilogy. Loosely based on 'Sleeping Beauty', Belle wakes after one hundred days in a coma and the story follows the piecing together of her troubled past. It has been a tricky journey for me as an author too but a very worthwhile one as it has brought up some interesting questions. Memory is a strange thing and can play tricks on us. None of us know just how accurate or not, our errant minds have recalled things from times gone by. As for history, supposedly recorded for posterity, well that was written by those in power, the victors, the successful... highly unllikely that they recorded any facts that didn't show them in a good light!
