Speculating

Just had an eye test (hence the pic of spectacles from days gone by to my current pair). It's no problem but I always forget to take my sunglasses and I come out of the opticians totally blinded because, with all the eye drops, my pupils are now the size of saucers! However, as I struggle, squinting, along the hundred yards or so to my home, hoping I don't look like a weird or inebriated person, I am reminded of how very lucky I am to have good sight. In fact, lucky in so many ways but, for me, sight is the most important of the senses. A friend always said she couldn't bear to go deaf because her love of music is so strong. I don't often listen to music - and yet, weirdly, I love musicals! Think I need a story (always a story!) to go with the song but I think I could live without music and one can learn to lip read and use sign language. I have a rubbish sense of smell so I could manage without that but I would rue the loss of taste as having given up all other vices, food is a big passion. I am a visual person. When I write, I see the scenes I create on a screen in my mind. I revel in colour - my first foray into writing novels, The Harlequin Triangle trilogy, was based on a colourful area of London with each chapter heading being a colour - and my home could never be described as neutral. So, I'm grateful to have passed all the tests at the opticians and grateful to live in such a place of beauty. But... must remember my sunglasses when I next go or I could easily fall into the harbour!
