International Women’s Day

It is a shame we have to separate ourselves from the opposite sex but, when one part of society has been oppressed for many centuries, it becomes a source of celebration when things change. Men could be forgiven for thinking they are being vilified but if women were to go down that route, it would achieve nothing so I don’t believe that is the reason for this day.
The intention to launch my book on International Women’s Day looked like it was doomed. When our computer was unable to use the programme we needed, as it was too old, it was a woman who came to the rescue; just as it was a woman who had mastered the ins and outs of self-publishing for me in the first place.
When my husband and I separated, I was fearful. Somewhere in my mind, I believed I needed a male presence in my life to deal with all the problems that can occur. How wrong I was. My daughter has shown me that, one way or another, we can overcome or deal with anything ourselves. Maybe, growing up in an age when women were still considered second-rate citizens by many, had something to do with that belief. Men can be wonderful and amazing but no more so than women.
The women in my life… grandmother, mother, mother-in-law, daughter and friends have shown such courage, compassion and care in their lives and I strive to match their inspirational examples.
Thank you, Kerrie Noor, for rushing over with your computer so my book ‘Believing in Butterfly’ could be launched and to my daughter for giving up so much of her time to master the technicalities and believing in me.
